What are the parts required to manufacture an electric scooter?

What are the parts required to manufacture an electric scooter?

Langfeite C3-10 Electric Scooter
Langfeite C3-10 Electric Scooter features a brushless DC motors, Lion battery and Aluminum Frame.

All electric scooters are made from the same basic parts, the real differences come from the quality and configurations of these main components. Let’s take a look at all the parts and some of the configurations Langfeite uses.

  1. Brushless motor. This is the most common type of motor in an electric scooter made for serious use. The reason being that brushless motors do not have brushes as the name says, thus they have a longer life and low noise level. Controlling the speed is also more reliable and stable compared to the brushed DC motors. Other mentionable features are low electromagnetic noise and better energy efficiency. The general minimum power requirement for electric scooters is 250W but this is only sufficient for the low entry-level scooters used for commuting. For example in the new 2022 range of scooters from Langeite starts with 600W Dual Motor C3-8” Electric scooter which enables riders to take on hills easily and enjoy fast acceleration.
  2. Frame. An aluminum alloy frame is a great choice for electric scooters and bikes thanks to its good properties. The 6061 Aluminum Alloy Langfeite uses is a precipitation-hardened aluminum alloy, which contains also magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. This means that it has good mechanical properties and has good and easy weldability. The Aluminum frame has a great weight and strength ratio making it an optimal choice for electric scooters.
  3. Tires. the Brushless motors are commonly built in the wheel and need the right size of tires with desired features depending on the riding features. Common choices are 10-11” Nubbed Tubeless tires for Off-roading and 8” Solid or Tubeless tires for City streets. You can read more about tire configurations in our earlier blog.
  4. Brakes – Drum or Disc brakes. Both are well known technologies for brakes. Generally, traditional drum brakes are quite reliable but for fast electric scooters Disc brakes are a must as they have better braking capabilities and rarely fail. Maintenance of Disc brakes is also easier, be it hydraulic or wired version.
  5. Battery. Lithium batteries are the most common choice for electric scooters because of the same reasons as they are for mobile phones. Langfeite’s 18650 Lithium batteries have a good weight-to-power ratio and have good charging and power retaining capabilities. Battery also needs to be paired with MCB for overcharge and short circuiting protection.
  6. Switches, Lights, Controllers. The throttle, blinkers, LCD screen, horn, key switch (lock) installed all need to be controlled by electric boards. Those components  and battery’s protecting MCB are often housed together in a protected part of the scooter like in the deck.
  7. Wiring to connect everything.
  8. Suspension. Some basic scooters barely have any suspension or they rely on the cushioning effects of the tires. Premium electric scooters on the other hand commonly have Spring Arm type or Hydraulic fork suspension in the front and back. Depending on the environment and especially the speed you can consider do you need the very high level of suspension that the Hydraulic fork needs. Generally, this offers superior suspension at the cost of added weight.
  9. Bells and whistles, hand grips, deck grip tape.
  10. Done.

Those are the the most common parts and options for electric scooter manufacturing. Langfeite can help you to design and manufacture your perfect electric scooters.

Electric Scooter Charging Stations and Removable Batteries

Electric Scooter Charging Stations and Removable Batteries

Langfeite C1 features swappable battery
Langfeite C1 features a swappable battery

In recent years there has been a lot of discussions about battery charging networks for electric cars but they haven’t taken over the world that easily. The reason mostly being about the cost of such things as electric cars require a very powerful electricity output to charge at reasonably high speed which isn’t that fast anyway compared to just filling your tank with gas.

Another option to charging is using swappable batteries, but for cars, this option hasn’t really taken off at all due to most cars having their own model of batteries that don’t fit the others.

Thankfully both of these options are possible for micro-mobility vehicles like escooter and bikes. Charging from a normal plug at the office is easy enough and it doesn’t stress the existing electricity infrastructure.

Charging from a plug still takes some time though, which is the reason why some companies are focusing on the battery swapping option to make riding scooters for longer periods more convenient. In Asia, some places like India are planning or have already set up battery swap stations all around the city where riders can quickly just pull out the battery from the scooter, set it to the station to charge for the next user while they themselves can take another already charged battery for themselves.

This means that the batteries are being swapped by users and charged by the battery station so there is no need for a nightly roundup of scooters like scooter-sharing companies do – In most cases they have to rent out a warehouse, have a truck, and grew to collect the scooters at night, charge them at the warehouse and again have a truck grew to spread them around the city. This process is inefficient and expensive.

Future solution

Due to the above-mentioned reasons, we feel that dedicated charging stations are going to take over cities and other locations where there are enough users and perhaps already existing shared scooter networks. In time shared scooter companies can benefit from the charging stations as well since that would rid them at least from the cost of renting warehouses for charging.

Electric Scooter’s future is racing sports

Electric Scooters and Racing Sports

Electric Scooter’s future is racing sports.

Sports and competitions. It seems like human nature, once you get some cool things or ways to travel you just got to get pumped and race a bit. So it’s only natural that now that electric scooters have become commonplace in traffic it’s time for sports.

That’s exactly what the self-proclaimed first Championship league eSkootr Championship eSC esc.live started on mid-2020 is doing. According to electrek the riders will all use the same kind of escooter with the top speed of 100 km/h (60 mph) and they are currently looking for athletes from other sports like cycling to join the league. Of course, their aim is to set up a whole ecosystem as in starting from junior leagues to recruit future drivers for the pro league.

This is truly an exciting time for the electric scooter industry. Formula’s and MotoGP are hugely popular and we see no reason why escooter racing wouldn’t become popular as well. Especially since riding on an escooter seems even more wild and thrilling than the aforementioned leagues even with a “slower” speed of 100 km/h.

Who knows where the sport will develop in the future. At the start, the eSkootr league seems to use the same scooter for everyone but as it gets more popular it will likely get more similar with F1 and other motor sports in a way that the league sets general limits and teams will build their own escooters. Maybe there will be even Team Langfeite one day.

In actuality when you look at the specs of the escooters used the same top speeds can be reached with the top-of-the-line consumer escooters already. So basically nothing stops self-made leagues from popping up and renting out racetracks used for carting and other sports.

Electric Scooter events and racing for Beginners

If you got interested in racing your scooter check out the Electric Scooter guide’s article and tips at https://electric-scooter.guide/guides/scooter-racing/ and learn more about the sport.

You can also find if there are already local racing events happening in your neighborhood like Apple Valley Speedway has had in Southern California.

Check out also Langfeite C1 and it’s introduction blog if you haven’t already – it has a top speed of 78 km/h which is sure to be a thrill to ride on the track!

Langfeite’s Year 2021 and Predictions for 2022

Langfeite’s Year 2021 and Predictions for 2022

The end of the year is here and we thought it would be nice to look at how we predict the year 2022.

Many readers of this blog have probably noticed our excitement about the outlook of the electric scooter market. Throughout the year we have seen many exciting developments both in business and street-level – pun intended. Some interesting blogs we wrote about this year were about issues like:

C1 Started the New Line Up for the Year 2022

From these headlines alone we can see how Electric Scooter news is all about how the markets are growing at an accelerating speed and cities are adopting the new demands from consumers.

The gist of the story is that people love electric scooters both shared and own for all kinds of uses, like students on campus, commuting to work and even Business uses at the airports and warehouses where they contribute to huge time savings, convenience, and health of the employees.

On some negative issues, we have seen cities starting escooter pilot programs, finding success or failure, pausing the programs, and restarting them again. From our view, these are growing pains that urban planning and lawmakers need to address as it is clear that the demand from citizens is there. In best cases, new laws like where you can use and park electric scooters are very successful and contribute to the convenience, safety, and aesthetic of the cities.

The same path is also global as the new micro-mobility solutions like electric scooters are already hugely popular all around the world, from bustling Asian cities to smaller suburban towns. Big cities see the benefit of bringing easy and eco-friendly transportation to customers which results in less congestion and cleaner air and environment.

Smaller suburban cities also see less traffic and as the range of electric scooters keeps on developing they are useful for even longer trips, which are already possible when combined with public transportation.

Prediction for 2022

More and more cities are going to officially legalize and set up the rules for electric scooters. Dangerous behavior like driving under influence will be set, age limits for riders, and limits on where and when escooters are allowed to be used and parked.

This will result in benefitting development together with cities designating riding paths to electric scooters like previously have been made for the car, bike, and foot traffic. Such planning will make riding scooters safer and easier.

In fact, these kinds of results are common everywhere where electric scooters have become common or piloted. What has been quite surprising is how many pilot programs have been made to reach the same conclusion.

After all these pilots we expect that the market will reach a new level of maturity in 2022 at least when it comes to the rules. The amount of players is still open.

Langfeite C3 10” Compact Electric Scooter for Off-Road and Commuting

Langfeite C3 10” Compact Electric Scooter for Off-Road and Commuting

Langfeite C3 10” Compact Electric Scooter for Off-Road and Commuting

Langfeite’s lineup for 2022 is topped with the 10” Inch version of the C3 escooters. It’s not just the wheel size that’s changed though. Let’s take a look at what else is different and what kind of use is this escooter made for.

Powered up Dual Motors

Just like the other C3 model and other Langfeite escooters this one is also equipped with a Dual Motor system but compared to the 8” the 10” has received a massive power increase. The motors are 1000W instead of the compact one’s 600W motors.

This extra power really ramps up the speed – all the way to 55 Km/h (~34 Mp/h) which makes this scooter an absolute thrill to ride on. Acceleration is in its own class since all that 2000W powers is delivered to the ground front and back. This is important as the torque has also increased: the specified climbing angle of C3-10” is 30 degrees.

Capable Off-roader and commuter

So what’s the reason for new tires? Well, these 10” tires are not only bigger but they are Off-road tires, the added size of the tire helps the scooter to cross uneven terrain and bumpy roads easier and the nobbed surface adds extra traction.

The 10” is aimed at people who demand high performance and want to go off-roading in their leisure time. This scooter is still an excellent commuter so it provides great entry to off-roading while being a reliable everyday rider. For those who just need the best of the best, our C1 Off-Roader offers’ the ultimate experience.

The Battery of 10” has seen an upgrade also to deliver the power the 1000W motors demand, which increases the range to up to 60 Km (~37 Miles) while the whole scooters have increased to 33 kg (~73 lbs).

Folding eScooter

Like the other scooters in Langfeite 2022 lineup, the C3 also features a foldable stem that makes it easy to carry and fit the scooter in limited space. In its class of commuter/off-roaders, the C3-10” offers excellent portability and is easy to take with you in a car trunk if you wish to go do some off-roading further away on your holiday.

Advanced Battery protection.

You can ride safely knowing that the C3’s battery is also controlled by an Intelligent Battery Management system that protects it from all kinds of problems like Short Circuit, Overcurrent, Overcharge, Over-discharge, Extreme Temperatures, and Undervoltage. In the case of Undervoltage for example the scooter battery will enter in auto-sleep mode.

Safety

C3 Disc brakes for both motors on the front and back to make breaking stable and breaking distance short.

For visibility, the scooter is fitted with a headlight torch that shines bright lighting up your way and making it easy for others to spot you on the road.

A great choice for Off-Roaders and Urban commuters who needs a compact and high-performance escooter!

Langfeite C3 8” Compact Electric Scooter for Urban Commuters

Langfeite C3 8” Compact Electric Scooter for Urban Commuters

Langfeite C3 8”

Langfeite’s lineup for 2022 keeps on growing with the new C3 8 Inch model which is made to be an excellent choice for use in the cities and suburbs. Let’s take a look at what it is made of!

Dual Motors

Just like other models C3 boasts powerful dual motor system meaning both front and rear wheel have their own motors delivering power at the same time. In C3’s case these are 600W motors which means that for this class of scooters C3 8” stands out as excellent choice for adults who want a high performing electric scooter for their commute.

Thanks to the powerful motors and battery the scooter can reach a top speed of 40 Km/h (~25Mp/h) and a range of 45 Km (~28 Mi) which are more than enough for most commuting needs. 2x600W power also means that the torque the C3  8” provides easily tackles any hills coming on your way. The specified climbing angle is 25 degrees.

Compact Folding eScooter

As the other scooters in Langfeite 2022 lineup the C3 also features a foldable stem that makes it easy to carry and fit the scooter in limited space. The highlight of C3 8” is it’s weight. While having this powerful motors the scooter weights only 28 Kg (62 lbs) making it easy to carry and handle even for lighter riders.

For visibility the scooter is fitted with a head light torch that shines bright lighting up your way and making it easy for others to spot you on the road.

Langfeite C2 is here!

Langfeite C2 electric scooter is here!

Look at what just dropped. Langfeite’s new model C2 is following the awesome top-of-the-line C1 bringing more options for riders. Let’s take a quick look at what it offers and who is it for.

Langfeite C2

C2 is the little brother of the C1 that’s aimed at Urban commuters as you can tell from the installed road tires with grooves for water dispersion.

The main specs of 40 Km/h (~25 Mph/h) top speed, 2x 800W dual motors and 45 Km (~28 Mi) range make it an ideal choice for city commuting needs. In many parts of the world, the top speed allowed in the cities is around 40 Km/h~25 Mp/h or even lower making this scooter a great choice to get the most out of your escooter.

The C2 is also equipped with Dual Motors which means that it delivers a total of 1600W of Power (Peak 2×1000 = 2000W) to the ground efficiently. Compared to single motor models the acceleration will be faster, more torque, more grip, and less strain for a single motor as the load and stress are spread evenly.

The range of 45 Km (~28 Mi) is enough to cover most commuter needs. To be sure the scooter weighs just 31 Kg (~68 lbs) making it easy to take it with you in public transportation and inside a building for charging. The battery can be charged fully in 7 hours so it will be enough time to charge it up during a normal workday or overnight.

You can ride safely knowing that the C2’s battery is also controlled by an Intelligent Battery Management system that protects it from all kinds of problems like Short Circuit, Overcurrent, Overcharge, Over-discharge, Extreme Temperatures, and Undervoltage. In the case of Undervoltage for example the scooter battery will enter in auto-sleep mode.

Outside the specs, there are the quality of life features such as quick folding which makes it easy to store quickly in small places. Take it with you in a car trunk, store it in your apartment easily, or even bring it with you if you use public transport for commuting too.

In a real-life case, you can easily ride it to the local train station, fold the scooter up, get closer downtown in the train, set it up again for the last leg of the commute, and get to work. While at work you can take it with you in an elevator and charge it up if necessary.

For safety, the scooter has Disc brakes for both motors on the front and back. The sleek design of the scooter is topped off by the inbuilt head torch that gives it a very sleep and futuristic look.

Overall we are really broad of the design and looks of the C2 and we believe that it will match the tastes of many riders out there.

E-Scooter market value to hit USD 23178.7 million in 2026 report finds

E-Scooter market value to hit USD 23178.7 million in 2026 report finds

E-Scooter market value to hit USD 23178.7 million in 2026 report finds

A recent report by Mordor Intelligence LLP found that “The Electric Scooters and Motorcycles Market was valued at USD 5176.16 million in 2020 and is expected to reach USD 23178.7 million in 2026 by registering a CAGR of 25.08% during the forecast period (2021 – 2026).”

This is a huge increase in just five years period. Meaning that all major cities and midsized ones are more than likely to have an offering of escooters and private individuals using escooters on a large scale. This is also the view we at Langfeite share.

Considering the volume of growth this will naturally come with changing cityscapes and regulations that open the road for two-wheeled transport. The popularity and use case is pretty much proven for escooters now and as the winter approaches, we are starting to see news about people complaining as some escooter fleets are getting removed from the streets for the winter.

Interestingly the report mentioned that the Covid-19 had a negative impact on the escooter market as the production of electric scooters and motorcycles took a hit. On the other hand, we see that the need for social distancing has enabled more users to try out the scooters for the first time.

In any case, once the supply chain is on full power again we are more than likely to see a rapid expansion in the usage of escooters which reflects the huge value increase stated in the report.

Where this expansion happens is likely to have an answer “everywhere” the trend of moving to greener transportation is a global trend. Recently we have discussed how the rising energy prices are causing people to look for alternative transport methods and how some major cities of the world suffer from smog and other pollution caused by cars and other fossil fuel using transports methods.

Langfeite C3-10 is a perfect scooter for the future.

Naturally many Asian countries like India and the Philippines will benefit from escooters a lot as they have high population densities and a great climate for escooters riding around the year. Maybe we will see a future where the air quality of great cities will increase as the need for fossil fuels decreases.

Currently, escooters are also often discussed as the last leg transportation meaning people perhaps use public transportation like the metro to get closer to their office downtown and then use an escooter to get from the station to their offices. This is likely to change too or at least the travel distance suitable for escooters will increase as the coming generations of scooters will have increasingly better battery life thanks to the battery and motor technologies developing faster as the demand for the escooters increases.

All in all the future of escooters is bright as the public is adopting the new technology faster and faster plus not willing to give it up as they see how it benefits their daily life in the form of cheaper and more enjoyable commuting, better air quality in their cities, fewer traffic jams and small carbon footprint overall.

Winter isn’t slowing down eScooters

Winter isn’t slowing down eScooters

It’s that time of the year, the weather has gotten cooler, winter is on your doorstep and so are the holidays. This week marks the start of the holiday shopping season with the usual Black Friday that starts earlier and earlier every week.

In the scooter industry, we are seeing big campaigns promoting escooters and one might think that the usage and sales of escooters would decrease with the cooling weather but that isn’t really the case unless it really snows in. As long as the roads are clear it isn’t really really a problem, just suit up and off you go.

Hence we don’t think that the scooters sold this holiday season is going to be put in the garage for the winter and taken out in the spring. In a matter of fact, even ride-sharing companies are now launching Winter safety driving programs to educate the public about the differences between winter riding.

As mentioned it doesn’t really differ from riding a bike in the winter. The main points are increasing visibility with good lights on the scooter (head and rear lights, turn signals), reflectors, this is important as the days are growing shorter. Streets don’t differ that much especially in warmer cities but those of us living in the cities where we go below freezing are a must to keep your eye out for black ice on the road. Don’t slip on those and keep in mind that you might need a longer braking distance. Other than that just remember to dress warmly, with good gloves, a jacket, and a nice warm helmet that you should wear year-round anyways to keep yourself safe.

C1 is presenting the premium range of e- scooters from Langfeite

In practice, it’s not even impossible to ride escooters when snow hits the ground but that’s when you need to up your game. Typical shared solid and slick tire escooters are not going to cut it. That’s when you need to get some good nubbed tires with traction, slick ones are not going to get you moving and if you manage to gain speed it’s going to be slippery, hard to break, and when you hit a hill you ain’t going up as the wheels are just going to spins and slip.

Another thing is that if you go below freezing levels it’s going to be harder for the battery as most of them are rated to have optimum performance around room temperature or at least above freezing point. It’s not going to stop you from riding but remember to charge your scooter and bring it inside when you are not using it. The latter is true also because of slush and snow that might get stuck on your scooter outside. Wipe it dry once you have a chance and don’t let the melting snow drown it. For that good performance having a scooter with a removable battery is optimal as you can easily have one warm and fully charged battery ready.

Anyways for many major cities of the world, we see lots of people riding those scooters this winter and there’s going to be more on the streets after the holidays as escooters are in many people’s wishlists. Some ride-sharing companies are going to take their fleets to shelters though so this might also nudge people in getting their own scooters we are also already seeing news about cities currently running escooter pilot programs getting requests to extend the test periods deep into the winter.

So be it rideshare fleets or people using their own escooters this winter is going to see more escooter traffic than the last and the trend is upwards. No stopping escooter boom now!

If you want to join on riding the wave of escooters contact Langfeite. Be it for Dealers or Ridesharing company we design and manufacture escooters for all kinds of needs!
